VertiPass

The aim of the VeritPass™ Concept is to present a comprehensive, passenger-centered, system-level approach to the design of vertiport security screening and passenger boarding checkpoints.

What does the VertiPass™ do?

This will allow Vertirport checkpoint designers and policymakers to incorporate a wide range of requirements and to evaluate checkpoint performance against system-level security, cost, throughput, and passenger experience factors.  Rival Air Inc. has developed this concept in partnership with AA Technology International, Inc.. Our approach for the security and operations of eVTOL travel is to ensure robust and controllable security performance and providing a model for a much less intrusive process focusing on passenger comfort with innovative technologies and procedures.

VertiPassTM: VertiPassTM is our multi-component technology concept that envisions a state-of-the-art integrated, paperless and contactless biometric-based solution for eVTOL passengers’ screening and boarding.  The solution has the following three (3) primary components:

01. VertiApp

A Mobile App that is intended to securely enroll passenger’s data to facilitate passenger screening and boarding when combined with the solution’s other components.

The VertiApp captures and retains passenger’s facial image and captures an image of the passenger’s ID card or Driver’s License.  The App authenticates the passenger being enrolled by comparing a live picture of the passenger to a clipped image of the scanned ID card or Driver’s License.  The App also ensures that validity and authenticity of the entered ID card or Driver’s License.

02. IntelliTunnel

The IntelliTunnel serves two functions.

The initial function is a walk-in / walk through security scanner that combines the use of security scanners with improved image quality and advanced automated algorithms with higher material classification techniques.  The technology offers walk-through or walk-by screening to eliminate the traditional booth-style process.

The second function is to securely identify and authenticate eVTOL travelers.  With a brief look at a camera for facial image capture we can instantly verify their identity with the enrolled facial image in the VertiApp on the passenger’s mobile smartphone. Using Near Field Communication technology (NFC) the IntelliTunnel is electronically interfaced with the VertiApp on the passenger’s smartphone.

The process of passenger authentication is seamless and efficient as it can be completed instantly in a single step.

03. AI-Based Intelligent Passenger Scoring System

Passenger scoring concept is an emerging technology.

This uses advanced algorithms and machine learning techniques to evaluate the risk associated with individual passengers based on their travel history and behavior. The technology creates a passenger score, similar to a credit score, that can be used by Vertiport security personnel to identify high-risk passengers and increase security measures accordingly.

The three components can be connected through a secure network. The security screening tunnel (IntelliTunnel) sends  facial recognition data to the passenger risk score system for analysis. If a passenger is flagged as high-risk, the system can alert the security personnel at the screening tunnel who can then take appropriate measures to ensure the safety and security of the airport.

The concept integrates and combines the use of these three components.  Mobile VertiApp, the IntelliTunnel Technology and the AI-based Intelligent Passenger Scoring System. The Mobile VertiApp and the IntelliTunnel are designed to utilize the facial recognition technology to allow passengers to go through screening and boarding in a completely contactless process.  This concept will provide a great customer experience, support strong security measures and reduce queueing times.  IntelliTunnel technology enables passenger to be automatically cleared for eVTOL travel by simply walking through it.  Utilizing biometrics, IntelliTunnel and touchless check-in can be controlled by mobile phones which eliminates the need for passengers to use self-check-in kiosks and touch screens.

The sections below provide a more in-depth look at each of these components.

VertiApp

VertiApp is designed with passenger in mind and is intended to simplify the screening and boarding process at Vertiports.   Once the VertiApp is downloaded onto the passenger’s smartphone, the passenger enrollment can commence.

Passengers will need to scan their ID cards or driver’s license and enroll their facial biometrics to complete their enrollment into the VertiApp.  This enrollment process is required once.  However, the registration of the Boarding Pass must be completed for every trip.

The VertiApp will automatically combine the following tasks:

  • Verify passenger identity by comparing the passenger’s live facial image to the facial image on the ID Page of the enrolled ID card or driver’s license.
  • Issue a biometric boarding pass (Your face or fingerprint become your boarding pass).

Mobile App (VertiApp) Passenger Enrollment

Download the mobile app developed by the eVTOL service provider (i.e. Rival Air, Inc). The app can be downloaded from the app store and installed on the passenger’s mobile device.

  1. Register with the app: The passenger needs to register with the app by providing their name, email, and other necessary information.
  2. Capture facial biometrics: Next is to capture the passenger’s facial biometrics using the mobile device’s camera. The app will use facial recognition technology to verify the passenger’s identity.
  3. Capture (scan) the ID card / Driver’s license:  The App will extract the traveler’s demographic data as well as a clip of the traveler’s facial image from the ID card / Driver’s license.
  4. Authenticating Passenger’s Identity: The VertiApp will validate the traveler’s identity by comparing the captured facial image extracted from the ID card / Driver’s license to the live captured facial image.
  5. Link the app to the passenger’s account: After the facial biometrics are captured, the app links the passenger’s identity to their eVTOL account. This step ensures that the passenger’s account is secure and that only they can access it.
  6. Use the app for screening and boarding the eVTOL: When the passenger arrives at the Vertiport, they can use the VetiApp mobile app to pass through the IntelliTunnel for screening and boarding the eVTOL aircraft. The app will verify the passenger’s identity using facial biometrics, ensuring that only authorized individuals can enter the Vertiport secure area and board the eVTOL vehicle.

IntelliTunnel

The passenger strolls through the IntelliTunel, which has an integrated camera to capture the passenger’s facial image.   The IntelliTunnel is electronically integrated to the VertiApp on the passenger’s mobile smartphone.  The passenger’s facial image is securely sent to the passenger’s mobile phone from the IntelliTunnel for verification.

The IntelliTunnel is equipped with a Facial Recognition technolgy to conduct a matching process between the live image capture on the IntelliTunnel and the stored digital facial token stored on the passenger’s VertiApp on their mobile device.   Within seconds, the facial matcher will proof the passenger’s identity and establish passenger’s eligibility to enter the VertiPort secure Area.   The positive match grants the passenger access to the secure gate area and will also display the needed details of the boarding gate number.

Utilizing near Filed Communication (NFC), the IntelliTunnel will read the passenger data in the VertiApp, which includes the authenticated enrolled passenger facial image and biometric boarding pass. The systems will record travelers’ facial biometric data as well as their personal information including expiration dates as found on the passenger’s government-issued ID card or Driver’s license.  The system will keep track of each passenger’s entry and exit of each Vertiport. This creates a closed, end-to-end security process.

Intelligent Passenger Scoring System

Passenger scoring technology utilizes various data sources such as passenger transaction data, travel history, and behavior patterns to create a comprehensive profile of each passenger. The technology then uses machine learning algorithms to analyze this data and assign a risk score to each passenger. This score can be used by operators and Vertiport security personnel to determine the level of screening and security measures required for each passenger.

The technology has several advantages over traditional security screening methods. It is more accurate given it takes into account the individual characteristics and behavior patterns of each passenger. It is also more efficient because it allows for a more targeted and effective screening process, reducing wait times and improving the overall passenger experience.
